The t-MAIL project team has developed a mobile application that supports primary school teachers in the promotion of their students SRL skills. The event is an opportunity for the participating teachers to test the app, try their hands on Self Regulated Learning (SRL), familiarise themselves with the theoretical background and learn techniques how to integrate the teaching of SRL in their classroom activities.

During the pre-conference event you will be able to

  • familiarise yourself with Self Regulated Learning: how it benefits the teachers and the students
  • have a guided hands-on experience with an SRL teaching application.
  • develop together with other teachers practical recommendations for integrating teaching of SRL in your classroom activities.

The event will take place on the 20th October (Friday) on the premises of the EDEN Open Classroom Conference, between 13:00 and 17:00, starting with a welcome lunch for networking. The workshop will begin at 13:00.

No additional registration is necessary. To participate, you need to bring your own device (smart phone, tablet or laptop).

The tMAIL - Teacher Mobile Application for Innovative Learning supports teachers, teacher educators, and policy makers in integrating self-regulated learning (SRL) into primary school classrooms across Europe by offering

1) a mobile application for teachers and associated monitoring platforms for teacher educators, and policy makers. The mobile application is generic and could potentially deliver any kind of teacher training. You can download the tMAIL app, HERE

2) a teacher training about how to develop and support the students’ self-regulated learning. This training is the content of the mobile application.

About Self Regulated Learning

Self-regulated learning skills involve all kinds of strategies students can use to uplift or maintain their motivation and positive emotions towards learning, as well as strategies that allow students to effectively plan, monitor and evaluate their work. Research evidence indicates overwhelmingly the importance of self-regulation during learning with a positive impact on students’ cognitive and social competence, academic achievement, motivation, well-being and engagement in lifelong learning. Due to its high relevance for success in and outside school, self-regulated learning skills are identified as one of the key competences of contemporary education.

Over the past 5 years, mobile devices (like smartphones and tablets) have found their way into teaching practice. Mobile learning may facilitate the collaborative and social nature of learning and may personalize learning and customize the learning experience to the individual learners. Moreover, mobile devices support learning anywhere anytime. Despite the growing popularity and interest in using mobile technologies in educational settings (e.g., schools), their use to support professional development and learning for teachers is surprisingly limited so far.

t-MAIL builds on the latest insights in the domain of learning analytics. The data on teacher learning and classroom practice collected by the app will be visualized and analyzed in order (1) to enrich teachers’ learning about self-regulated learning, (2) to help teacher educators to personalize their teaching practice based on accurate and real-time assessment of teacher learning, and (3) to enable evidence-based policy making.
